BAHAWALPUR: The Mangla Corps won the army wrestling championship 2016-17 held at Bahawalpur Garrison.
The Gujranwala Corps got second position. GOC Major General Amjad Ali Khan Khattak, chief guest on the occasion, gave away prizes to the position holders. Ten teams from Pakistan Army, southern command and Army Air Defence took part in the five-day championship. The matches were witnessed by a large number of wrestling enthusiasts.
Separately, security has been put on high alert across southern Punjab after the recent blasts in Punjab, Sindh and KP.
Darbar Fazal Shah at Khichi Walaa was sealed due to insufficient security and mela at Darbar Chanan Pir has been temporarily closed. The Auqaf Department sources said Regional Police Officer Idrees Ahmed has directed police officers of Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan and Bahawalnagar to beef up security at shrines.
Citizens have been asked to keep a vigilant eye on suspicious activity.
Bahawalpur District Police Officer Ashfaq Ahmad Khan has directed SDPOs to increase security in and around all government buildings and key installations.
